Well I survived
Jul. 24th, 2006 06:13 pmMy first day at my new job started nicely.
I received a letter from them on Friday telling me to report for duty at 9.30 just for today. So there was no need to get up at 5.30 am to catch the 7.00 am bus to get into work by 8.30 am, but I start that tomorrow. Coming home was a doodle. I got a lift to the bus station and caught the 5.15pm bus and was home before 6.00pm.
The people I've met so far are all very laid back and friendly, I'm going to have a bit of a problem finding things to talk about to Khalid. What does a 57 year old Western feminist have in common with a 23 year old Iraqi male. I'll have to study up on golf apparently he's an addict.
So far I've had a lot of background stuff explained to me but only one specific job, Looking after the petty cash. That should keep me occupied for oh at least 45 mins a day and that is on a busy day. There will be days when I will take about 10 mins. I did have ordering and invoicing explained but if I spend 45mins a month on that it will be a very high spending month.
I was right so far, my main problem will be finding enough to do. I have two days training coming up on specialised computer programs that they use and I have been set the task of organising the big bosses filing. The major part of that will be getting her to get rid of half of the bumf she hoards.
Apart from the ungodly early start I should have an easy life here. And hopefully once my endowment policy matures next year that won't be a problem.

Date: 2006-07-24 05:46 pm (UTC)Any chance of renegotiating the ungodly starting time, then?
Glad to hear it's been a promising start.
