Because if there is please send me their Addy. I stand here before all my lj friends knitters and non knitters and admit to them and myself I am a knitting addict.

This week we added a book to to stock in work called Modular Knitting. Basically it is patchwork with knitted squares so I borrowed it to bring home to use up all the little bits of wool I always have left over.

This morning A went to my nearest shopping village to buy a few bread rolls to see me through until tomorrow and while I was there I popped into Jimmy Illes, our local discount store, just for a look round and walked out again with 6 balls of various colours of silky wool to knit something out of Modular Knitting. Up to now I have had a degree of control over my addiction. I only bought wool that I needed at that moment I didn't have a stash. If I had wool left over that would do for an experiment I would use that. This is the first time I've bought wool to 'practice' with.

Granted the wool was half price but someone stop me before I develop a stash, please!

I know what you mean. I only manage by having an anti-addictive personality. I don't get into soap operas, never smoked (so never needed to give up) chocolate is good, but I can have some in the house without eating it. And most important I CAN walk out of a shop without buying anything.

The down side is that I miss television programmes I wanted to watch because I didn't make a point of setting the video, I've no nibbles to offer visitors cos I didn't get round to buying any and it's difficult to remember things that don't get bought on a regular basis.

*pat* *pat* I have a combination collector's addiction/crafter's addiction... *sigh* People look at my stuff and say I have more than most craft shops... one closet is floored with huge bags of pre-cut yarn for rug making, and I don't dare open another closet because it's full of leather garments purchased at the thrift store to cut up for bear's clothes...

First it's yarn. Then it's pattern books and needles and counters and ... :^)

Yes, needles and patterns from the last fifty years or so (some were my grandmother's) I know I said I could manage not to buy, I didn't say I could throw out.

*nods* Yep. About 15 years back I did manage to rip up a bunch of women's magazines from the 1960's-1970's and throw out the ads, thereby reducing the mound 'o crud. I sorted out and kept all the patterns, of course.

And I've have been gradually gathering all the knitting needles (some must be close to 70 years old) into one bundle stored in a round cardboard container that had held a gift presentation bottle of wine.

Oh yes I've had that problem. Most of my pattern leaflets are my mother's or my grandmothers. I have had the advantage of working in libraries all my adult life so I also have a pile of photocopies (some now faded almost beyond reading) and my hard drive has more patterns saved than anything else.

My mum used to save wool... when we cleaned out the house, there were plastic bag (shopping size, garbage size, godknowswhatsize) all over.

Even in the attic.

At the moment my bits and pieces are confined to a two foot high Alibaba basket so I have a way to go yet.
