I'm in two minds
Mar. 17th, 2006 08:11 pmI have the vague memory of posting that my employers are duty bound to find me a job I can do either inside the library or within the council system. Well today I had an interview at the Newport ship. This is a project conserving, studying and eventually reconstructing the medieval ship that was found buried in the mud of the Usk at Newport. If you want any more information visit www.thenewportship.com. Things went well at first when I was only speaking to Mike. (He’s in overall charge) I had convinced him that I was perfectly capable of the walking involved, the ship is in a thousand pieces and all laid out in tanks of water about 20ft by 6ft and there are dozens of them, The warehouse is enormous. The Kate the chief conservator arrived and there first thing she asked was could I drive. My answer was I was legally entitled to but physically unable and that was that I was not considered suitable, as I wouldn’t be able to ferry papers back and forth between the warehouse and the museum.
So I went back to work disappointed, I would have enjoyed that job. This afternoon I had a call from Debbie, my caseworker, who said Mike had told her that I could not do the job because I had said I could not travel. I put her right on the reason and she said she was going to look into things as there ways around ferrying bits of paper. What on earth did they think e=mail and faxes were for. So there is a possibility that I will be working for the Ship.
And I am in two minds now, I would like to work there but if I am forced on them there is going to be a bit of an atmosphere and I don’t want to work in an atmosphere. Life is difficult isn’t it.</lj-cut<
