I knew this morning was to good to be true. I want a cigarette and I want it now. I am on the verge of putting my coat on and walking to the shops.

I've tried oral gratification, tea consisted of a forbidden fried egg sarnie and an individual Christmas pudding with brandy cream. It should have worked , it hasn't I still want something to put in my mouth.

Only one thing I can do that is not giving up. I'm off to bed with a DVD or two. I don't know which ones yet B7 is up there already as is the classic Star Wars trilogy and I picked 2001 a Space odyssey in a local charity shop recently. I'll take that up with me. If I can make it to 9.00pm I will be safe till morning, even the local Indian closes then.

I'll let you know later.

Hoping you make it past needing the cigarette. Not telling you to stop or judging, just hoping.

2001 is awesome. One of my favorite movies ever.

I think some of the appeal of smoking is the displacement activity. If you're nervous or bored, habitual things take over (I rub my nose when I'm nervous, and doodle in the air when I'm bored, pace when I'm thinking). Can you replace it with something like knitting, or sucking a long-lasting boiled sweet (hate the things myself) or walking? Something you like doing?

I remember a friend of my father who missed his pipe badly because he liked to fiddle with it to give himself thinking space.

Smoking for me is associated with sitting at the computer and playing dominoes. And that is what started it to night. I will have to find a different game to pass the time.

I have started crocheting a bedspread for th single bed, i managed to find wool almost the same colours as the paint, and I took Beth with me when I bought it just to be on the safe side you know my colour vision problems.

However I have spent most of today crocheting and my wrist is hurting hence my alternate displacement activity, go to bed and watch a DVD. Thank goodness it worked.

Excellent! Keep it up. My silly fluffy sister gave up smoking, and if she can, you certainly can!
