I'm off on holiday on Saturday. My college friend of 35 years is arriving tomorrow night, with her four dogs, and Saturday we are off to Moylegrove near Newport Pembrokeshire right on the Pembrokeshire coastal path.

We don't go walking along there as one of her dogs is a collie cross and we dare not take him anywhere near sheep. He has won certificates in obedience competitions but he sees a sheep and all his training goes out the window.

He knows he should be doing something with them but doesn't know what so Edward ends up chasing them. He's only done it once we are too well aware what could happen to him if he were caught doing it again so he is firmly on the lead when we have the remotest chance of meeting any while out and about. It's not easy since he is crossed with a Staffordshire Bull terrier and he is strong.

Still we are only a 5 min drive from Newport beach. Miles of golden sand with dunes and a golf course in land so no sheep. we can let Edward, Bas, Elliot and the little lady Cas run free and exercise themselves while we gently stroll after them.

However if any of you have a direct connection with the being that controls the weather can you order a fine week for us. Walking the dogs in the rain is as much fun as in the dry, I don't ask for sun but that would be a bonus.

Last time I was away I asked you lot not to get garrulous and did you listen, no you did not so I won't even bother this time. So I have taken the week off after this holiday to catch up on things

You'll have a wonderful time out there!

Last time we were on the coast the wind almost blew us back home. But the sea was fantastic - waves like Hawaii 5-0. Almost.

I find it difficult to think of anything in the canine way that would be more of a handful than a collie-staffie cross. Which bits of each does he have? Both are too intelligent for their own good.

He has the build of a staffie, the colouring of the border collie and the intelligence of both. He can out think most 10 year olds.

Thje only thing that makes him trainable is that he adores Sue, his owner.

The staffie collie cross is just a guess from his looks, he's a rescue dog. The poor dab was found in a cardboard box that had been dumped outside a rescue home in en Edmington, he was about 3 months old. He had been there all night they thought at the poor dear is still frightened of the dark. we have to turn the outside lights on to get him to go out for late night tinkles and he stays within the lighted area. He's eight years old now.

Aww, poor thing! And that's the first time I've heard you say 'poor dab'! Leia says that about Vila all the time. :-)

Sue and the dogs have gone to bed so I can play on the computer for a while.

Leia and I are both Wenglish speakers then. I thought dab was a Welsh word but can't find a translation for it on line, but the English translation would be 'Poor little thing'

Wenglish incidentally is the dialect of the valleys. mostly English with a few Welsh words and a lot of slang with Welsh grammar.

Yep, Leia's mentioned it more than once! She lives in Swansea now, but I don't think that's where she's from originally.
