Thank you all for good wishes on my holiday, we did have fun in a lazy sort of way, lazy for me that is , as all I did was sit on the edge of the beach being creche mother to varying numbers of Sue's dogs while she walked the others . She must have done about 10 miles a day, somehow we both managed to come back slimmer and she is certainly much fitter though that cannot be said for me. When we were both of us out walking her dogs, along a hard pavement not a soft beach, one of them zigged when I thought she had zagged and tripped me up with her lead. my legs from ankle to knee have some lovely purple bruises and I ache all over. But enough of the problems, I have weighed for the first time in 2 weeks and this is my new weight.

That is roughly 9 lbs in two weeks, and that is in spite of 3 days with coffee and cake for afternoon tea. The first was a delicious, rich, creamy Bailey's Irish Cream cheesecake, the second was a crumbly Apple cake, more apple and sultana than cake but sweetened with their own Honey from the Honey farm we always visit, shear Heaven. The third was two standard Welsh cakes with butter as I though I shouldn't go for anything too rich. I will close this with two photos to tantalise you ready for when I have the energy to put up some of my 148 for your delectation.
This is the difference between the skin of my arm hidden under my watch strap and the tan I got from 6 days of constant sunshine and one day of overcast.

And this is Newport Beach at low tide. In the distance is the old Newport Harbour, now known as the Parog.

Congrats on losing the weight. I should try walking more, but the combination of fatigue, weak leg, asthma and living in a hilly city make it hard work.

You picked the right week to go away. It's the best weather we've had since about May.

Surprisingly I have walked far less this last week than any week in the last 3 months, I think it is because I stuck very closely to my diet. When I'm home there is bread in the bin and fruit in the bowl and at a push cereal but at Newport beach the cafe closes at the beginning of September and what you bring with you is all you have and that was a salad an protein sandwich fruit and coffee. As Sue is never off a diet for once I did healthy meals of an evening instead of a week of Sunday dinners.

And yes we surely did , if any one had said we would have a whole week with out a spot of rain before we left we would not have believed them. The mornings were cold, heavily dewed, when you are in the company of 5 dogs who would live on the beach given half a chance you get up early.

Thank you, I did not intend to tan it was Tuesday before I noticed it, after that I used a factor 6 suntan cream that Sue keeps in her first aid kit for Hugo's snout, which is very pink under white fur, so at least I didn't burn.

Your dogs and children would have loved it, and you too probably. It's a blue flag beach which means it is has passed some very stringent tests for cleanliness in spite of being a dog walking beach, 99.9% of dog walkers pick up after their dogs and pick up after those that don't too.

Well done and a nice tan! Walking would be so nice for me too, not today though, had to drive my mum back to the town and now I am a nervous wreck - the traffic was horrible and I am a lousy driver. And mmmmm...the food you describe...yum yum!!!

and now I am a nervous wreck -
That was me at 13:15 on the Saturday we went on holiday. I took my car as Sue's is really too small, it's 3 times the size of mine, for 5 dogs 2 humans and all our paraphernalia. I had just arrived after driving over 100 miles with only a Satellite Navigation box to guide me. Having done it once coming back was so much easier.

Looking back at it I walked less that I normally do but I also ate a lot less, spending anything up to 9 hours in a place which is a 5 minute car drive from the nearest shop does wonders for your diet.

Ah yes but at home there is always something to stress me out, washing up for one thing, house work for another. Sue does the washing up on holiday and there's no house work and I can kid myself that this idle can go on for ever. Also I managed to knit all but the one sleeve of a jumper while away and knitting is my meditation. If I do enough of it I am in an alpha state which is very good for my Blood Pressure.

Washing up? You mean doing the dishes? Get a dishwasher then! I got a small one years ago, a compact Bosch that only replaced one cupboard. It's worth it if you hate it that much. We have a normal-sized one now, and when I'm on my own, I just load it after each meal and run it every second night. It's wonderful!

I know what you mean though: on holiday, you can relax without thinking about the things you have to do.

Yes I mean doing the dishes and believe me a dishwasher is already earmarked for the kitchen when I have it re-modeled. I am just to much my mothers child (if it isn't broken don't fix it)to have one put in before that.

I'm so glad you had nice weather while you were on holiday - great tan!

You're doing better than me on the weight loss front - congratulations and well done! I've had a very naughty weekend dietwise - but I'll be back to the gridstone tomorrow.

Sorry about your fall - hope it feels better soon xx

It helps to be a five minute drive from the nearest shop for between 5 and 9 hours a day( a full 24 if you count the days we go straight back to the cottage from the beach)so you can't fall off the wagon. Thank you the bruises are less painful now but I won't be kneeling down any time soon, my knecaps are still sore to touch.
