And in my case it has been to go to the cinema at 10:00am this morning. I have never been to the flicks any earlier then a 3:00pm matinee before but Prince Caspian was only on at 10 in the morning. Beth and I met up at the Spitty Multiplex at 9:45 and were the only unacompanied adults there. Thankfully the majority of the kids went in to see Kung- fu Panda and the children in with us were very good, even the todler who just went to sleep in the dark. Setting aside the fact that most people will equate the Telmarines with Al Quida, they weren't written that way more of that later, Beth and I enjoyed ourselves imensely, the girls were allowed to fight in this one and boy did they kick ass. The book states that the Telmarines were descended from pirates who had mutinied and ended up on a desert Island IIRC its been years since I read the book and to me these people in the film reminded me of the stereotypical Spanish Buccaneers than arab terrorists. Yes it's still racial preducice but we should remember that the books were written in the 1930s/40s when the 'Baddies' were 66% Mediterranian types with the Spanish Civil War just over and Mussolini a rising force in Italy, dear Lord Hitler himself would not have passed his own rules for looking a true Arian, don't expect 21st century racial attitudes. Any one who hasn't seen it should go, suspend belief and enjoy a rattling good yarn with magnificent battle scenes. I loved it.

I always prefer earlier showings myself. Much fewer people. At times there are only a handful of people in the theatre at that hour. Which is just fine by me.

Most of my cinema going predates Multiplex cinemas. We got two big films a week with a supporting film, different for each and a newsreel and adverts, and the National anthem was played at the end of the show and people stood to attention for it, up to the mid 60s any way. The only morning show available was the kids club on a Saturday morning and my parents wouldn't let me go to that, the crowd was too rough. You're right about hardly any one being there I think there were about 20 people in a theatre that would hold 200. I must remember that when we go to see Mama Mia.

I have been thinking of going! Unfortunately I have to wait until it is on nearby, have my car repaired and go through an audit at work...
Must see it!

I can heartily recomend it, it sticks fairly close to the original book, the only difference being that the girls actually get to fight, hand to hand combat, in the books IIRC the best they could do was fight at a distance with bows.

Yes, the Telmarines were half unspecified pirate and half Pacific islander, but were represented in the film by Portuguese, Spanish, and Italian actors portraying medieval Spanish (so maybe the pirates were Spanish).

I never once thought of Arabs but it seems others did. They should have left Aslan's explanation of their origins in.

Yes it has been said to me that the bad guys were Arabs. I'm glad my memory is still fairly good, I last read the books when I was in my 20s.

Good to know! One we'll have to rent which is a shame because those battle scenes are always better on the big screen.

It's a shame to have to wait for the DVD but it must be terribly hard to have a social life with one young child let alone 2, you have both my sympathy.

It's amazing how the day gets sucked up with two kids... Once they're older it won't be so bad!
Thank you. :)
