I arrived at my friends house to start my animal sitting duties at about 12:00pm, unpacked and discovered that in spite of carrying one suitcase three shopping bags and a large handbag full of necesities to the car I have in fact arrived with out one thing I might need but could wait til tomorrow to go and fetch and one essential. My camera is still sitting on the inside steps and my daily tablets are sitting on the kitchen work surface. Now the camera I could do with out but the tablets are an essential, there is one set that if I miss even one tablet my body resets to zero and I have to start the build up again so it means a trip back home. Thankfully it's a trip by car so it should only take me an hour all told and I'm leaving it untill this evening when hopefully it will be cooler. The cats have been in and had a bite of lunch. Cosmo the new female waltzes in with Pipin and eats voraciously totally ignoring him and he ignores her, Gizmo however came in and saw Pips was already in and eating and sat down at the door for a little while then went out. I took his food out to him but he still wouldn't eat, it wasn't until Pipin had finished and left that he came in and ate. It would seem that the boys have worked out who's top cat and that's Cosmo then Pipin then Gismo a long way last. But he had one over on the other two while he was outside waiting I sat with him on the garden bench and he got scritches which he adores.
I have also been into town and bought the thread to do some cross stitch , if the cats will let me , it's a field of poppies with a windmill behind them. I may out of desperation use it a WIP for namro on Friday as I have also left all my art materials at home too and that's where they are staying. I'm also starting on a crochet lace cotton bed spread that might be used for an entry too we'll see.

Cats and craft - those are good things to have. Of course, cats and craft in combination, don't always work but my pair generally let me get on with whatever I'm doing. They content themselves with just shedding hairs on things, even things that are kept wrapped up. I think cat hair moves through some kind of alternative dimension. We always said Shiraz was an elemental from the plane of Fluff.

That's too true, considering the cats are not allowed upstairs, that's where the hamsters are kept, there in an inordinate amount of fluff up there and most of it is white(from Gismo, he's ginger and white.)

Cross-stitch is *terribly* tempting to cats. All that thread moving and begging to be attacked!

Yess and crochet isn't much better, I did bring back a sketch book and pencils as well as my tablets. I might try sketching the gingers, Pipin is too black to make a good model.

I figured out a crochet trick that makes it easier- put the yarn into something and just let it feed out as you work. If they can't get at the main ball, they lose interest after destroying it a few times.

This sounds so calm and content - if I may, that for me also quite Victorian-like due to the cross-stitching...Enjoy!!!(As far as tha cats are good)

That's what I thought when My mother started learning it at the village hall craft class, that must have been 25 years ago now. It intrigued me and I looked round local craft shops till I found a nice simple cross stitch kit to try. I found I liked it and have been cross stitching ever since. Twentieth century cross stitch is a little different from the Victorian samplers, it's more like tapestry with silks instead of wool. The one I'm doing now is a field of grain filled with poppies and a white windmill in the background. You may see it as a work in progress for one of my August art making entries(Namaro).

I once went away without underwear and had to buy some. :-P

Have they adopted the abandoned cats from next door? If so, I'm very pleased.

Cosmo and Gismo the gingers yes and they found a home for the new one the neighbours had got about 6 months before deciding to move. Since he was so new to the pride they thought he would adapt better to the single life. Pipin, Cosmo and Gismo have adapted very well to each other considering Pipin considered them to be the scum of the Earth and had no place in his garden. Last week they stood shoulder to shoulder to see off an other black cat that had the timerity to come into the garden. Gis is still very deferential to Pips but that doesn't stop him from eating anything Pips leaves in his dish,

Oh no that's annoying. At least you could pick up your camera at the same time as the tablets... :)
