Apart from a lot of very expensive looking boats and waterside apartments there wasn't much to photograph until we got to the other side of the Bay which is actually a slightly upper class
seaside resort called Penarth( the beaches are around the headland in this photograph.)The Barrage stretches from Penarth on the one side to Cardiff on the other.

This is what the non beach side of Penarth looks like from Cardiff

Sorry I didn't bother with taking pictures of them, just think of any marina you have seen and that's Cardiff's twin. Having got to the the Barrage and tied up alongside I noticed this building and sculpture on the dry land at the rear of the boat.

This is the Penarth Customs House, apparently 'The Brighton of South Wales' had a thriving port on it's side of Cardiff Bay. A closer shot of the sculpture out side it is below. Suggestions on what it is are welcome, my best guess is a mermaid done in the style of Picasso.

On our way back we passed the Norwegian Church where Roald Dahl was christened and beside it the Memorial to the Antarctic 100, That's the Scott of the Antarctic one, it sailed from Cardiff. I had walked all the way up there to photograph them both only to have my batteries fail so |I had to walk all the way down to the other end of the bay and a little way inland to buy new ones and I wasn't going to walk all the way back to take the photo, The Scott memorial is is till in the process of being built so I will go back and get you a close up in a few months time but the church came out beautifully. the statue is on the right as you look at the picture and the oval construction behind it is a display of what was done to the Bay and waht is to come.

And finally on leaving the quay by the opposite side to that I took coming in I ran into this strange object.

Which when you walked in through the rear(the solid end faced the water) was covered with a various symbols perched over a 340 degree mark. It wasn't until I spotted a weird looking pyramid on a square base that I realised the symbols signified what you would see when facing in that direction. The tip of the pyramid pointed almost directly to the Norwegian Church, if you enlarge you can see the white boards peeking through the last of the trees. the light house symbol to the left of the Pyramid must be the Light Boat moored up to the left of the Church but not visible in this picture.

Fond memories of when Middle Son was in Cardiff. He was at uni for 3 years then lived there for another 2.

Good job you didn't meet any of those pesky aliens that pop up down there all the time....

They were all afraid of the Dalek's and had run away, any way I was right over Torchwood's secret base they would have been to busy doing nasty things to them to bother with me.%)
