Cardif Bay, the middle part 1
Jul. 9th, 2008 05:42 pmRealising I couldn't get back far enough to get full pictures of the three buildings you've seen in the arrival with out being able to walk on water I took my phobia about boats and deep water and battered it into silence and too a ride on the boats that took you round the bay. It was actually very pleasant we were rarely further from the bank than I could swim and was very informative.
This was actually taken on the way back but since it is the reason for me to be on a boat we start with The Millennium Centre, the Coal Exchange and the Assembly building.

To get to the boat I had to walk by one of the first bits of street furniture to be placed at the bay. In the right conditions, when they are silluetted against a sunny blue sky it is difficult to the statues from reality.

This is the boat I went to sea, or rather big freshwater lake in. I wasn't aware until the comentary started that Cardiff Bay had a Barrage(big dam)built across it's entrance, water can be let out with out letting water in so the only water that enters the Bay now is fresh water from the Taff and Eli rivers.
.
And as I have mentioned the Barrage here it is.

As we proceeded clockwise round the lake the first thing we came to was the salt marsh that has been kept as a wild life sanctuary. It was odd to see this mass of green in the middle of a built up area.

What was a bit odder was this artificial floating island full of either cormorants or shags, I'm not sure which here.
