I've never actually started one, just watched half of Far from the Madding Crowd on TV and gave up on it. TV serials usually leave out most of the boring bits so if a TV serial bored me then the books must truly be unreadable.

Very little Science Fiction or Fantasy.

Yes they are a strange mixture, I don't know where the list came from so I don't know the criteria they have used. Certainly with the modern ones they have all been best sellers in the UK, but for the rest I haven't a clue.
