Well the doctor did not recommend me for Invalidity Retirement, I suspected she wouldn't from my interview with her. But Jill(the city Librarian) and I had agreed at our last interview that if I didn't get it I would go by mutual agreement, which is something like redundancy but with less money, I only get 12 weeks in stead of 34 weeks which I would be entitled to if I was made redundant. Jill is very sorry but she can't make me redundant as she had to agree to a no redundancy clause for 5 years the union insisted upon when she pushed through the operating changes in 2003. That runs out in December this year and by then I would be on no pay sick leave for 3 months. This way I get enough money to see me through the 12 week period you have to wait before you can claim unemployment benefit if you leave a job voluntarily and then I can go onto unemployment benefit, providing I've managed to spend enough of my savings to get me under £16,000, I'm thinking of an iPod and a new scanner and after that I don't know. I'll have to wander round PC World as see what's available.
As you might,or might not, have gathered from the tone of this I am not exactly unhappy about this, in fact I was grinning all over my face driving home, I am free and I love it.

Not the most optimal news but you are free now and that is always good. I'm happy for you. Time to have some fun.

Thank you, after 7 months off work I am beginning to understand what Beth means when she says she doesn't understand how she managed to work full time. I've developed so many interests in the last few moinths I couldn't keep up with them and work, I'm having lots of fun.

Oh, I'm sorry it's not the best news, but I'm glad you're taking such a positive view of it.

It could be a lot worse, I could be on no pay for 15 months without being able to claim anything. If I play my cards right I should be able to keep some of my savings and get sick pay.

You bet, to be able to do what you want when you want is worth any amount of money.

You can rest when you need it, and when you feel like doing something you can take as long as it needs. YAY.

Enjoy the freedom.

Less than eight and a half terms until I join you.

You know I think I could have made it to 60 if I could have worked part time, it was going to work day in day out for at least 315 days a year that was getting to me. Eight and a half terms are going to fly by.

Exactly, mornings only was fine, but four mornings was even better. Cuts down on the pay but leaves you healthy.

I do wish you'd got the full package... but definitely half a glass is good in this case. So happy that you're getting what you really want :) And new toys to boot!

Not the best news but still you are FREE.
Enjoy your spending spree. If you need to get rid of a large chunk after buying fun items you could always consider what your car or house may need doing to it. (Sadly prosaic I know!)

After so many trouble and frustration you had to go through and considering the general condition of EVERYTHING I also agree that this is not bad. Finally you can relax and enjoy the "pleasantries"!
