He has his evil ear on in the second one. He had been sitting on my lap purring loudly while I scritched him, then he went schizoid, tried to bite me and stalked off to the end of the couch with one ear up and the other flattened.

Either you hit a sore spot or he had decided he had had enough grooming.
Our cats use a good tongue washing as a subtle or not so subtle technique for displacing the washed cat from a favourite spot.

Oh he decided he had had enough, his Mum didn't teach him manners. When He wants/doesn't want something he makes it unmistakable. Up to that point he was holding my hand in place with his right front leg. He might have got a bit overstimulated as well.

Lots of male cats do that. I don't think they can help it, they're happy with the petting and then suddenly it gets too much and they get bitey.

Yes over stimulation and not having been taught good manners with humans. His predecessor Toby would just move away, so does Semtex but Pipin and Hobs(the nameless ginger now has a name)bite or use their claws.

Sounds like they need teaching.

My brother always let his boys get away with that. I haven't had many tomkits, but the few I had learned very quickly that I wouldn't put up with scratching or biting.

I've found what disconcerts them the most and is the easiest (and harmless to everyone involved) is to HISSS in their faces when they misbehave. They understand that much better than any words.

With a little practice you can make it sound very fierce. :^)

My dog used to be like that too. I got him when he was three years old and he was never socialized or taught properly. He's not like that now, but he still doesn't like being petted too much.

Poor puppy, it's always sad when dogs & cats don't have good homes all their lives. But at least he's lucky now.

Oh you have a rescue boy too. not that I have on e but Losyn is a rescue and three od Sue's 5. But those have all turned out polite, Losyn because he just naturally is and Sue's rescues because she just wont put up with bad behaviour with people at all and has little patience when it is with their fellow dogs. She's not cruel just firm when she needs to be and loving when it's appropriate.

Hehe, yup Artemis does that too, just outta the blue he'll nip and bite! One can only pet so long before he turns into Mr. Prissy.

He's beautiful, all sleek and shiny black. My parents had a grey and white male cat that would bite like that. He also loved to stalk people and pounce on them unawares as they walked by - mischievous thing.

Pipin is very much his own cat, he decides when he wants petting by sitting on your lap and kneading, usually your stomach, and don't youi dare move until he's ready to stop. He does need to be taught manners though, I'll give [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house's suggestion when I next look after him and hiss when he tries it on.

I think that's a great idea! Hopefully he'll get the point via 'catspeak'! :D

Ahhh, black and shinning! He definitely has a strong personality!
Funny, you have got the same pattern on your curtains - I mean not the white ones - but my colour is brown! Small world!

Pipin isn't mine, I animal sit for him,3 rabits and a vaying number of hamsters a couple of times a year. He belongs to my Goddaughters family and the curtains are her mother's choice. J and I worked together in the reference library about 20 years ago, became friends and have stayed good friends ever since.
As for the curtains they must be very fashionable at the moment, J got them just before Christmas when they redecorated.
