They were very good in giving me a new date(today) when I had to cancel Thursday because of Auntie Dora's funeral but when I rang yesterday I was given the 4 hour window of 1:30 to 5:30 pm, 35 minutes ago I got a call from the delivery men, they would be here in half an hour. and I still had tons to do, empty the fridge, do the washing up from yesterday and move my collection of coats from behind the front door. It is amazing what you can do when you have to. I didn't quite finish the washing up. Now having removed my cooker and unpacked the new one they have found that it is damaged so i will have to wait for that one to go back and a new one to arrive. Plus point, they are re-installing the old cooker so at least I will have something to cook on til the new one arrives again

Once they were gone I collapsed with a cup of coffee and my sketch book for an hour. Since then I have sorted out the coats from behind the door into suit jackets to be put upstairs with their skirts coats I wear regularly and coats that can go to charity. I am down to 4 coats from 14, Not bad going.
I am now waiting for the fridge to settle before I put everything back, that's 4 hours from delivery so I have about an hour to go. Things are still frozen that should be frozen and things that aren't frozen are still cool as I put them in on top of the frozen stuff in a lidded box on the back yard wall where Finlay can't get at it. Thank goodness for winter cold.

Yay for new fridge. And thank heaven the guys didn't just shrug and say 'reconnecting the old one isn't our job'.

That's why they've only gone down from a 10 to a 9. And my nice little gas installer spent 20 mins sorting out my boiler too. Which I expected any way since his turning off the gas at the mains flubbered it in the first place.
Keep the customer happy seems to be the motto they do actually trade by.

*sigh* It's so romantic... companies actually making an effort to do what they're paid for.

I've just (a couple hours ago) put in yet another call to Window Boss asking him to live up to his promise to help me fill out the form to fight City Hall which I wouldn't have had to do if he'd told me how to get a permit for the door from window conversion he told me would just be 'don't tell them it's new, and it'll be FINE'.

Hugs Your problems wit E house have me shaking in my shoes because I need damp proofing done on this house and am dreading it. We once had a builder called John who was marvelous, you could trust his word on anything and his work. He retired 5 years ago and moved to Cyprus to get away from his old customers because he knew we wouldn't let him retire So now I'm in the position of having to ask everyone I know can they recommend. So far no good

Well, an alternate method could be to look up companies and ask them to give you the names of some recent customers, who you could politely call and tell them you're considering hiring the company & would like to know if they'd been completely satisfied with them.

This method would be pointless for me because so few people speak English, but possibly it (or a variation) would help you.

Hopefully all is behind you now and you can rest. If it had been me with our big feezer, I would have been mad by now because we produce our own meat, both pork and beef (our family are all carnivorous)and my husband is very demanding - so we have got a full big box. Once I want it defrost, I also wait for cold winter. Another remark: my husband won a prize at a ball ( hunters and gamekeepers) and came home absolutely delighted. I expected something exotic - and yes, it was: a hare. Believe me, spoiled men are... horrible! :-)

I think I would get on well in your kitchen, I am a meat eater too and only eat vegetables because they are good for your health.

At least they did make sure you could still cook. I imagine there will be an investigation on this one.
Be cheeky and ring them up for a discount due to the hassle!

By the way you mentioned damp proofing"
I googled online for "good builders" some of the sites may be worth looking into, for example:

It's a way to go if I don't get a grant from the local council. If I do they recommend the firm and I complain to them if things don't go right. Caerphilly Council area is vast, no builder wants to be blacklisted from them so the work is usually good.

Well if Keep Moat have the contract I'd be cautious. Their subcontractors doing the windows were fine. The same for the firm that did the fire.
The rest were worse cowboys than the usual council workmen. 2 years from their "revamp" the council is still putting things right.
