Today was Auntie Dora's funeral, 9:00am in St. Luke's Church which is about 5 mins away by car. The sky was grey but dry when I left. By the time I got there it was spitting with rain which got worse as I walked from where I finally found a parking space(half way home) and up the Church drive. At the end of the service the heavens had opened and water, just above freezing point, was coming down in monsoon quantities. I was soaked by the time I got back to the car. The service itself was wonderful. Auntie Dora was one of 9 children, 8 sisters and one brother, and although only one sister is still alive, they were a very close family and all the generations coming from them had at least two represenitatives there, the church was full. After Her generation there were a preponderance of boys born and she had a Welsh Male Voice Choir of her own blood to sing her to rest.
The weather remains wet grey and miserable and I don't intend to leave this house again today.
