I have needed a new fridge/freezer and cooker for probably a couple of years now, they both work but very inefficiently and both are over 30 years old. When I went to the bank to set up a high interest account for my endowment money I was persuaded to take out a credit card, interest free for a year. So instead of using my principle to buy what I needed I have just paid out over £500 on a credit card, the most I have ever spent on a credit card in my life. I went to Comet first and priced up what I wanted which came to Over £500 pounds before we got into delivery and connection charges not to mention insurance, so I went to Currys where I got the same 3 things for just over £300, which when all the rest was added on came to less than just the price of the goods in Comet. I am well pleased with what I've got and more than pleased with what it cost, Currys will have my business in future.

£500 vs £300? That's a big difference! Good thing you went to Currys.

Especially when you've been up late the night before and are up, dressed, fed and on the road at 9:00 am. Driving into Newport this morning was like being the only survivors after a something killed the rest of the population. Beth's car was the only one on the road all down the valley. For once in both shops we didn't have to play hunt the shop assistant, we were beating them off.

I was amazed at the difference, with luck like this through the year I might just win the lottery this year.

That´s a sheer success! Here you can´t do such a magic but still there are sales. It was, of course, so TEMPTING that I bought new curtains - the old ones went right to the disposal bin, hahahaha, what a JOY!!! :-)

Magic is the right word for it. I was brought up in a household that didn't get rid of anything that still worked or could be repaired, so I am feeling very guilty about spending money on things that are old but still work, except the hoover that has died.

Hey, you NEEDED those things! And maybe they'll work so efficiently that they'll lower your utility bills!

The guilt comes with being brought up with little disposable income, nothing was replaced until it wouldn't work and couldn't be repaired. The fact that I got them so cheaply is helping to assuage that guilt.

Ecognouilt is a survival trait, but it is economic to replace Not Quite Dead thing slightly ahead of Absolute Death of Item if you can get it on sale.

And quite often repairing out of warranty things isn't economic (where I am at least) because the parts and labor are so expensive & once it starts needing repair it generally has other things going wrong soon after.

Oh that's brilliant, well done Currys. And you, obviously. I love new fridges almost as much as new stationery, there's something wonderfully clean about them, and they're sort of bigger than they ever are after the first six months.

It's great and I know what you mean about the smell of new white goods, new anything really , there is something very special about it. New books that only a few people have handled is my favourite. On the rare occasion I buy book I always take the bottom one off the pile because that one is likely to be handled least and still have the new small.
