Two for the price of one again today. more of my cartoon practice and something I'm not very happy with but am happy with at the same time.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Yesterday I found that I could get my friends front door to lock so I had to wait around for them to arrive home. I kept my pencil, rubber and sketch book with me and was sitting with my feet up in front of the TV wondering what I should draw next when I ' noticed' the print they have over the fireplace. It's a huge print of white horses, one big one in the fore ground and several small ones in the back ground so I had a go at the big horse. So I had a go at drawing the big boy, it's not good (not happy) but it is recognisably a horse (happy). it looks all out of proportion to me but the original is seen in a semi profile with the head full on and very difficult to draw for me anyway.

The herbivores have been eating fermented fallen fruit and the carnivores have discovered a huge patch of catnip %P. Either that or they have all been caught in the head lights of a passing safari land rover.

Hee - your cartoons are such fun! :D

I love the horse. He looks very proud, like he's coming to a casual stop in front of us to show off. You caught the movement well.

You caught the movement well.
That is the bit is the bit I'm happy with but the head area I'm not happy with.

The cartoons are fun and work.

I'm going to be brutal about the horse (remember I don't draw) The parts are right but the joins are wrong. The hip joint looks fine, the bum behind it isn't. Then if the hip is right there's no torso before you reach a working shoulder. The left shoulder (right as you look at it) hasn't worked at all and that is why the head looks out of position.

Now you can throw something at me.

I am not going to throw any thing at you, you've been very nice about my cartoons

I knew the horse was wrong but couldn't articulate what. You have just told me what it is and next time I try to draw a horse I will know what to be careful of, and I won't be trying it on one standing at such a weird angle

I don't know why (especially since I can't draw) but I see things like your horse in terms of the bones. I've recently given up on a half done cross stitch dragon for the same reason. The chart looked fine, it's not until you see the proper colours for the shading that the shoulder for the front leg and that for the wing won't work mechanically. It's put me right off it and I know it'll never be finished just because of that.

I'm only putting the link in the comment so it doesn't clutter the place up. Just so you can have a laugh at my attempt, here is a horse I drew in Paint with the mouse.

Since
a you claim you can't draw
and
b you were useing a mouse and paint
that horse is very. very good.
When I look at my drawing now I can see what you mean and it will be help[ful in the future, and don't laugh your paint horse has helped I can see the correct proportions in it.

The only thing I remember from "art" at school is when the teacher tried explaining how to draw animals.

The torso is basically a brick, so draw the brick first. The legs go on each corner, knees and elbows close up to the body, they walk on tiptoes and fingertips. Thin the belly, round the bum and sag the back a little. The neck comes up from the front edge and the jaw bone will overlap the neck. All illustrated by a horse.

No idea why I remember that when she spent ages on mixing watercolours and I never did get the hang of it.

Thank you but you are the only one that thinks so, he's all out of proportion but I am quite pleased that I was able to draw a horse that looked like one.

Out of proportion? I didn't notice. I thought he looked like he was ready to jump from my screen.

I seem to have caught the spirit of the horse in a somewhat deformed body, a happy accident.

i am really enjoying the toons. The horse, well I am happy and unhappy as I said. I think I've caught the spirit but the anatomy needs a lot of work. Thank you.

Toons must be your style!

There's no way I could draw a horse without a picture to work from, I assure you!
