I decided to go on round the kitchen one cupboard a day and clear them out. This was brought on by having to do something about my cutlery draw the other day and finding that no I'm not a hoarder in the rest of the house but my kitchen is another matter completely. By throwing away the oldest of duplicates , triplicates or in one case sextuplets (cork screws) I turned three full drawers into one empty drawer and two easy to find things in draw. This afternoon it was the turn of the cooking containers cupboard. I discovered I had 4 roasting tins, two that should have been thrown out long ago because they were burnt and the other two were one person size and family size.
Now I don't have visitors to dinner that often but I've kept the latter, the former has gone for recycling as have all my 12 hole tart ins and the 6 hole muffin tin, a couple of sponge tins and a Christmas Cake size cake tin. I just don't cook cakes any more, I eat to much of them if I do.
I did keep all three of the small, medium and extra large casserole dishes as when I buy a new freezer I plan to start cooking in bulk again and freezing in 1 person portions. About 30 plastic food containers, minus lids, went as well. They are so old there was nothing on them to show they were recyclable so they I am afraid were just binned.
I found 3 single person casseroles dishes that I had forgotten I had. The double cupboard is now virtually empty and I can now put my saucepans away again in stead of leaving them on the stove.
Three kitchen bin liners went to the dump yesterday and an other three big plastic bags ended up there to day.
I'm back at work Monday so the rate of landfill from my house will decrease for the next week but next weekend will spawn another three I've no doubt, but if I decide to get rid of my old glass food containers (12 of them) they will go for recycling.

Date: 2007-01-27 06:44 pm (UTC)I *did* dump/donate probably half of what was in the various cabinets so they are now only normally crowded instead of 'open door and jump back out of the way of the avalanche'. I threw out spice racks & old microwave dishes & storage cannisters & assorted casserole dishes, etc. This is the house of Too Much Stuff.

Date: 2007-01-27 07:08 pm (UTC)I have way too many neat things. Peelers to spiral cut potatoes (carrots, zucchini, etc.) and cake pans to make checkerboard cakes (when you cut a slice it's a pattern of the two flavors you used) etc. etc. Kitchen gadgetry is so neat.
I totally understand ...
