As we say in my family of a job done fast but completely. Well not quite:-

1 Decorations taken off tree. Check

2 Tree unplugged and put away. Check

3 Cards Taken down. Check.

4 Garlands taken from living room door. Check

5 Wreath taken out of kitchen window. Check

6 Greenery taken down and put in bin liner. Check

7 Oops almost forgot Santa Clause wall hanging taken down. Check

8 30,000,000 neddles hoovered up from the hearth and carpet. You have got to be joking, that is a job for tomorrow.

It's better than I thought. I was expecting about 30,000,000,000,000. What ever that tree was it was very good at not dropping needles.

Good job I read your check list - I'm going yes, yes, yes... Nooo. I just got up and took the welcome dec from the front door. I'd forgotten that one completely :)

I usually forget something and it's usually something in the kitchen, I was determined this year not to go through the whole of 2007 with a sprig of holly hanging from a picture frame and by god I think I've done it.

I've just taken my tree and cards down, though it's the morning of the 7th. It's very freeing not being superstitious. :-)

However it always makes me sad because it mean Back To Work. Tomorrow in this case.

I started back last Tuesday so I have absolutely no sympathy. I've checked every where twice and I think I will not have to look at a forgotten decoration for the rest of the year ( the only way to stop the goblins leave the forgotten item up). So I think this may be an occasion for my squee icon.%P

He's probably really snarling, you know. I have a pic like that of Claudia as a kitten, with all her fur on end. She was such a skinny little thing, she looks like 'the kitten from outer space', which is what we named the photo. I should find it and scan it.

She was a funny-looking kitten; she grew more beautiful as she got older.

I think I've got it all done. But like you I always find something I've forgotten a couple of weeks later.

The one I have to look out for is the angel blue tacked to the mirror above the crib (and the wreath on the front door.)

We took our tree down three days after Christmas.
I put away the cards just after New Years and realized we'd forgotten the Nutcrackers hiding behind the cards! Oh well, they can hang out in the closet for the year.

The dust pan and brush and the hoover were plied this afternoon and apart from a couple of presents Christmas is safely banished for the rest of the year. It's all sitting at the top of the stairs waiting to be put away in cupboards. Next year I might just take things down early, as far as I can remember there isn't a superstition against that.
The presents are a large bottle of brandy which I will work my way through over the next year and an 18 inch tall pepper grinder that I haven't worked out what to do with yet. I have some strange friends

I don't think there's anything wrong with taking decorations down early. Personally 3 weeks is enough!

MMM the Brandy sounds perfect for a night cap on a cold night. 18 inch pepper grinder O_o seems a bit overboard, I'm mean how much freash pepper can one person use?

Jenny, the giver, and I have been friends now for 52 years. We've had our own homes for 30 of those and quite well paid jobs for most of that time. We have run out of things to give each other that we haven't already, or that we've already bought ourselves. So we resort to strange gifts like an 18 inch pepper grinder. I was fairly sensible this year, I gave her and enormous mug, about six ins. deep and eight ins wide at the brim, six inches at the base and I filled it with a couple of sachets of good hot chocolate powder, a packet of mini marshmallows and a small bar of chocolate and a small bottle of sherry with a crystal sherry glass. Her pepper grinder came with a variety of foods that I could use the pepper with, cheese, sun dried tomatoes and a packet of vermicelli. I know she loves chocolate but won't buy it because she eats too much of it and she knows I love cooking so we were both happy.

Ah, yea Gift giving gets hard in those situations! 52 years that's awesome! My best friend and I have known each other for 22 years.

Mmmm Chocolate! What a great idea for a chocolate lover.

Ah, now the pepper grinder makes more sense. *cheese* Yum!
