I have just had to spend the night with my friend Jenny in Newport. I went down to visit her as I usually do as she is still housebound with her back problems and gets bored with now one to talk to but her daughter when she is at home. Since she works more or less full time that's not a lot. We were so busy talking that neither of us noticed that the sky had clouded over and it was large white snow flakes falling from the the sky, not rain. Only when I got up to close the curtains did we see it. Now Newport is a big enough city to have its own eco and weather systems, like London,it does not snow in the city centrer or for about a two mile radius around said centre. I worked there from 1976 to 2007 and lived there for almost as long, counting this I have I have only known snow fall and stick, which this was, in Newport 5 times in all those years. I phoned cousin Beth to see what it was like 700feet or so above the sea level I was at. She said don't attempt getting home we are snow bound though the main road seemed to be passable the hill wasn't.

Good
Saffron was with me
Bad
I had only brought food for her evening meal
Good
The local super market hadn't closed and I was able to buy dry food for the morning.
Bad
It cost twice as much as I pay at Sainsbury's
Good
There was a spare bed
Bad
It was a single, Saffron occupies half of my double and she tried to do that on the single.
Good
She does realise I'm Alpha female and she is beta so I won.
Bad
Neither of us had any of our pills and potions. Luckily none of our pills are life threatening to do with out but we both woke up achy in the morning and I had to watch what I ate.
Good
No snow in Newport when we woke up and I was able to get bread from the local baker as Beth was still snowbound. but it was melting fast but she was worried that our Blackwood supplier would have been sold out by the time she could have got there.
Bad
Arriving home safe and sound with supplies safe and sound and discovering the one thing I didn't have was my hand bag. Which means That I am with out money , in my bag, and the means to procure it, cash card also in my bag, until I go back and fetch it. It's not as bad as it might be, I know Beth will sub me if I need money and I have done my weeks shopping already but it is annoying.

Incidentally Saffron thinks snow is a rather bland ice cream and keeps eating it, as it is the first she has ever seen that isn't surprising.
